Groovy Tunes for Thanksgiving

Updated: Nov 24, 2020

Hey Tigers! Thanksgiving is just a few short weeks away, but what if you want to feel festive even sooner? Listen to some Thanksgiving music! Here is a playlist of seven great tracks sure to put you in the holiday spirit.

  1. A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving Soundtrack - Vince Guaraldi

I’m willing to argue with anyone that Charlie Brown has one of the best Thanksgiving specials to date. The fact that he’s been killing the game since 1973 is very telling. I grew up watching A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving with my family, and now the holiday almost feels incomplete without it. This Thanksgiving special comes with an amazing soundtrack that includes a “Thanksgiving Theme,” and “Linus and Lucy,” a piano classic. Honestly, this soundtrack is worthy of being its own holiday playlist.

  1. “Yummy” - Justin Bieber

Ok, hear me out. I think we all collectively decided to hate on this song for some odd reason, but why? I don’t think any of us should be ashamed to catch a little Bieber Fever, especially when this song is perfect for the Thanksgiving holiday! Thanksgiving is all about food, so I think this is the perfect song to vibe to while thinking about greens, beans, potatoes, tomatoes - you name it! Plus, there are so many random versions of this song depending on your mood (my personal favorite is the Summer Walker remix).

  1. “We Are Family” - Sister Sledge

Give me a moment to do some arm exercises because I’m about to throw it way back to 1979! This timeless classic is a great reminder that Thanksgiving is all about family. Being on campus or away from loved ones can be very hard, and that is why celebrating the people who mean the most to you is very necessary. For some reason, this song always makes me want to boogie, so this is a good one for those who need to stay awake on the road!

  1. Mizzou Alma Mater

One of the most notable Thanksgiving traditions? Football! In fact, Mizzou is playing Arkansas Thanksgiving weekend, so it will only be right to get into the spirit with the alma mater.

  1. “We Are The Champions” - Queen

Ok. Fast forward to after the game when everyone is cheering because Mizzou just totally won the game by a landslide! Be the super cool person who cranks up this timeless classic and makes everyone’s day. Personally, I’d add this win to my list of things to be thankful for!

  1. “Thank U, Next” - Ariana Grande

Be honest, you knew this was coming. There are so many songs that say “thank you,” but this one in particular puts a spin on things and uniquely expresses gratitude about lessons learned from relationships. Plus, I feel like the energy it gives off pretty much expresses how people feel about Thanksgiving in general. We love the day itself, but once it’s over, it’s on to the next holiday just like that!

  1. “Blessings” - Big Sean ft. Drake

If you listened to “Thank U, Next” right before this, you might find it kind of funny that this is a Big Sean song. Anywho, this is a good song to end on because it allows you to reflect on all of the things you are thankful for and the blessings you care to acknowledge during this holiday. Plus, this song is just super fun to sing.

Now that your playlist is in order, the only thing left to do is finish strong in your classes! I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving holiday, and please know that I am so grateful for each and every person who reads the blog! Fight Tiger!
