The Quad is an idyllic place on Mizzou’s campus especially during springtime when the temperatures rise, trees blossom and flowers begin to bloom. I pass through the Quad every day so it has become part of my daily routine to admire Jesse and the Columns, people-watch and spend a moment feeling grateful to call this place home. Read on to get an inside look into my train of thought as I walk through the Quad to get to class.
This might be a new personal record for me – walking out of Speaker’s Circle with only one flyer? Wow, I need to add this to my résumé.
Now I just need to get to my nutrition class on time. Will I make it for the first iClicker question? Will I have to awkwardly climb over people to get a seat in the Geological Sciences auditorium? At least I get to see the beauty of Jesse and The Columns on the way, right?
You know it’s nice out when the Quad is busy with students sunbathing on the grass, playing Frisbee or studying on the edges of The Columns. It looks like a scene straight out of a classic college movie. I can’t help but wonder every time I see people doing work on The Columns – how do they make it look so comfortable? Last time I looked there was no padded seating. Also, there is no easy way to get up onto The Columns other than channeling your inner Ninja Warrior and getting a running start. I’ve gained too many bruises from trying.
Ok, it’s 11:57… I think I can make it to my class. Wait, the Quad looks too pretty right now to not take a picture. The grass is no longer brown, the sun is shining and the trees are starting to color with pink and white flowers. It’s undeniably an Instagram moment. But I have to be cool and make sure I don’t look too much like a tourist. Be cool, be cool. Just casually slip out your phone as you’re walking and take it, no big deal. Everyone does it. Boom, done. Yep, that’s definitely going on my Instagram story.
I’ve finally arrived at Geological Sciences, ready for nutrition class. Shoot, what were the tenants of a good diet again? I look back toward the Quad, seeing students laughing and Jesse shining in the sunlight. Pulling out my iClicker, I forget what the tenants of a good diet are, but for any True Son or Daughter, the top of their list of priorities is a certainly a memorable walk through the Quad.
