7 Reasons to Roar at 2021 Mizzou Homecoming

Nobody does homecoming bigger and better than at the birthplace of the event itself, Mizzou. Since 1911, Tigers near and far have been gathering to celebrate Mizzou’s most cherished tradition. Whether it’s chowing down on Booches burgers, cheering on the team at Faurot, or reminiscing at the Columns, here are some events and happenings to make the most out of the best weekend of the year.

FRIDAY, OCTOBER 8

LBC Solidarity Walk: Started by Autumn Carson in 2017, the Legion of Black Collegians is bringing back their Solidarity Walk, a march supporting the Black community to raise awareness about how marginalized students have traditionally been excluded from Mizzou’s Homecoming. Minority groups from across campus, as well as faculty and staff, will gather to connect with others who might have similar experiences and create a network of support. The walk will run from 2 PM to 2:30 PM, beginning at the Gaines/Oldham Black Culture Center. LBC’s overall Homecoming theme this year is “For Us, by Us,” and the LBC royalty court will be crowned at the annual Ball.

Campus Decorations: Stroll through Greek town from 6 pm to 9:30 PM to see this year’s video games-themed campus decorations displays. You won’t want to miss the skits, food trucks, and Columbia community.

Spirit Rally: At 8:30 PM on Traditions Plaza, put a little extra pep in your Homecoming step at the Spirit Rally, which will include performances from Marching Mizzou and the Golden Girls.

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 9

Homecoming Parade: Kick off your day at 9 AM as the Homecoming parade makes its way through MU’s campus as well as Downtown Columbia. Campus organizations, royalty courts, administration, alumni, community members, and of course, Truman the Tiger, will all make appearances in this annual event. Secure your spot early so you get a front row seat to all the action!

Multicultural Greek Council Homecoming Tailgate: Join the MGC, the Multicultural Center, and Association of Latin@ American Students at Tiger Plaza from 11 AM to 1 PM for their annual Homecoming tailgate. Enjoy free food (hot dogs galore), yard games (did someone say corn hole?), and good company.

Gaines/Oldham Black Culture Center Tailgate: Enjoy music, food, and networking opportunities with the Mizzou Black Alumni Network from 11 AM to 2 PM in the GOBCC parking lot. The annual Black Family Reunion (BFR) Homecoming Tailgate brings together generations of Tigers to mix and mingle, celebrate Homecoming, and connect with parents, current students, alumni, faculty, and staff.

Homecoming Game: For the crown jewel of the weekend, cheer on the Tigers at the football showdown against the University of North Texas. Whether you’re watching live from Faurot or from a TV at Shakespeares, bring your loudest Tiger roar at 3 PM and stick around during halftime to see who will be crowned this year’s 2021 Homecoming King and Queen.
