7 Ways to Survive Finals Week

#1 Caffeine is your friend… but so is sleep

While coffee can be a lifeblood, it shouldn’t be all that you depend on. Getting sleep each night actually helps your brain and increases your chances do well on your tests. I’m no doctor, but sleeping less does not help anyone. It’s proven to do the opposite, actually.

#2  If you haven’t started reading your textbooks, now is a good time to start

The semester is long, we all know that. One week you put off reading, which turns into another week without reading and before you know it, you’re reading this blog post instead of your chem textbook. I know I’m entertaining, but I’m not helping your GPA. They don’t call it reading day for nothing. Get to it, future Einstein. You’ll be glad you did.

#3 Buy your blue books early, people

There is nothing worse than racing to the Mizzou Store or to one of those school supply vending machines only to realize they are out of blue books. Your professor may have extras but never bank on that. Fortune favors the prepared, so stock up now while you can.

#4 Stay hydrated and eat well

Don’t use finals time as a week full of days where you can eat nothing but junk food because you’re too busy to eat healthily. Your body needs to stay happy and healthy to maintain its brain power. Eating right can dramatically help you stay focused and energized so you can ace all your finals. Eat those veggies, fam. Treat yourself to loads of ice cream when it’s all said and done.

#5 Have a trusted friend change all your social media passwords

Look, Twitter and Instagram can go for a few days. You don’t realize how much time you spend scrolling into other people’s lives until it’s actually taken away from you. It’ll still be there when you get back and your thousands of fans will still love you.

#6 Group study sessions may be beneficial

Studying in pairs or groups doesn’t work for everyone, but don’t be afraid to give it a shot. Reciting information to another person almost always helps you remember it better. Getting together with at least another person from your class to compare notes and make sure you’re both on the right track can be really beneficial.

#7 When you think about quitting, don’t

School was never promised to be easy, but putting in the hours to get good grades is worth it. Just remember, when the tests are all over, we don’t have to go to class again until January. How sweet is that? If you’re really struggling with wanting to give up, sing the Rocky theme song over and over until you’re ready to go a few rounds in the ring. In all seriousness, I know it may be hard, but you’ve spent an entire semester preparing for this. You can do it.
