How to Holiday in Columbia

For many college students getting into the holiday spirit is not always easy. There are finals to study for and complete, classes to finish and plenty of homework to catch up on before winter break. Not to mention, many students are celebrating away from home, friends and family. Thankfully, there are a number of ways for Missouri Tigers to celebrate the season in Columbia in the upcoming weeks.


On Monday, December 3, Chabad at Mizzou will host a party in honor of Chanukah. The event will include a giant menorah lighting, hot latkes, doughnuts, Chanukah gelt and dreidels. There will also be a raffle. The event begins at 7:30 p.m. and will take place in the Student Center.



Noel

See Eoin Colfer’s book, Noel, come to life Wednesday, December 5. The play follows a young girl’s journey to find her mother and the magic of Christmas. The musical will be performed in Jesse Auditorium, and the show will begin at 7 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online.




Brew 'N View

Come to the Blue Note on Friday, December 7 for a Brew N’ View. The event will feature a showing of the movie “Elf” and will serve Christmas-themed drinks to those 21 and over. The Blue Note also plans to transform the venue into a Christmas wonderland. Doors will open at 7:30 p.m. and the movie will begin at 8:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased through the Blue Note.



On December 7, in the heart of downtown Columbia, guests will be able to experience the magic of Christmas and enjoy the arts. The District website shares that there will be “live performances, open houses, shopping, snowflakes on Broadway, the Magic Tree and visits with Santa.” Free hot chocolate and chestnuts will be served. This event will be held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.



Christkindlmarkt

Günter Hans will host its third annual Christkindlmarkt on December 7 from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on the in the back patio of Günter Hans. There will be booths from vendors such as, Koeze Nuts, Mid-Missouri Wood Carvers, Optimist Club’s Christmas Trees, Philip Gresham Woodworking, Antics Crafts, UkuleleKaty Designs, Mold and Deckle Acorn Crafts and Senza Gluten Free Foods. Admission to the event is free.



Holiday Craft and Vendor Fair

On Saturday, December 8 support Battle High School’s FBLA members in their third annual holiday fair. The event will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will host a number of local crafters and vendors. Tickets are $2 at the door.



Jingle Bell Run

Give back at the Arthritis Foundation’s Jingle Bell Run. The 5K will take place December 8. Check in is at 7:15 a.m. and the race will begin at 8 a.m. Participants are encouraged to get festive and wear a holiday sweater or costume to the event. One hundred percent of the proceeds will go to the fight against arthritis.



Silent Night: A Winter Silent Disco

The Blue Note and Oldman Rager & Co. will host a silent disco Saturday, December 8 at 9 p.m. Those attending will be given headsets to hear music from DJ’s Jen Ha, Sanna, Babysox Robinson, Helix, Geecee, Lodurr, Kevo, OC, Sound Affects, & Down x Out. It’s all the fun, without the noise. Tickets are $7 and can be purchased through the Blue Note.



Join the Stoney Creek Hotel & Conference Center and the Curtains-Up Columbia and Hormonal Imbalance Theatre Troupe for a frighteningly festive dinner experience on Friday, December 14. Each ticket includes tea, a three-course meal, and a theatrical performance. Tickets are $90 per couple or $48 per person.
