Member Appreciation Week 2021: So Much Love to Share!

Hey Tigers! As you know, our last blog was about Spring Break: one of the most highly anticipated weeks of the semester. For AASBers, a week that’s arguably just as important is Member Appreciation Week! Each year, AASB sets aside a week to acknowledge its incredible members who hold this organization together! While all 70 of them are pretty amazing (ignore any biased sentiments…), this year’s blog shoutouts are going to go to members who deserve so much more hype who we want to make sure are shown as much love as possible! Each committee’s VP chose one very special AASBer for their committee spotlight. Let’s meet the awesome recipients!

Internal

Name: Hannah Riekhof

Pronouns: She/Her

Major: Nursing

Hometown: St. Joseph, Missouri

Year: Senior

Member Class: MC ‘17

Message from VP (Emily Hickey): Life as a college student is busy — especially when you’re a senior at Mizzou’s nursing school, where you’re likely spending a huge portion of your time at clinicals and preparing to graduate. However, being a busy nursing student doesn’t stop Hannah from being a dedicated member of Internal and a positive force for all of AASB. Whether she’s bringing her great ideas to committee time, helping to plan recruitment (and bringing in some amazing new members in the process), celebrating our members by organizing AASBirthdays, or -- in her newest venture -- helping to organize the upcoming Disney Channel Games, Hannah works hard to make AASB a better organization for all of its members. Most importantly, she comes to every meeting with a positive attitude that makes every member feel welcome. Hannah is amazing, and we will miss her when she graduates this May!

External

Name: Derrek Hardy

Pronouns: He/Him

Major: Agricultural Education & Hospitality Management

Hometown: Browning, Missouri

Year: Senior

Member Class: MC ‘16

Message from VP (William Sullivan): Derrek Hardy is an extremely important friend, asset and leader on the Alumni Association Student Board. Derrek has been involved in AASB for a majority of his college career, and his passion for our organization and university can be easily discovered in any conversation with him. Derrek is someone who can easily energize a room just by being himself, while being a welcoming face for all members. He’s just one of those people with an infectious personality. Despite being a busy graduating senior, he manages to be fully committed to our organization — dedicating countless hours to help plan important events such as Senior Sendoff and Mizzou 18 & ‘39, constantly volunteering to work events, and being an overall light. Derrek is truly an AAStarB and we appreciate all of his hard work, support, and his presence in totality.

True Tiger

Name: Jordan Kallet

Major: Business & Hospitality Management

Pronouns: She/Her

Hometown: Greenwood Village, Colorado

Year: Senior

Member Class: MC ‘17

Message from VP (Allie Pigg): I want to spotlight Jordan Kallet because she’s one of our seniors leaving us, and she’s always willing to put in the work for TTN in whatever ways it needs her. She’s a rock for TTN and AASB! She is also so kind and fun to be with and she just makes our committee better. She’s so humble and is always finding a way to make other people feel appreciated, but it's her turn to be appreciated!

Traditions

Name: Alex Klumb

Pronouns: He/Him

Major: Chemical Engineering

Hometown: Moline, Illinois

Year: Junior

Member Class: MC ‘19

Message from VP (Jack Graham): I’ve chosen Alex Klumb to spotlight. Alex Klumb is a soft-spoken, kind, hard-working leader who brings so much to AASB every day. But most importantly he is a great guy and a fantastic friend. Alex is one of those people that is impossible to dislike because of how considerate and genuine he is. He brings such a fantastic energy to every interaction, and seriously treats everyone he meets with so much respect. Within AASB, Alex is very much a lead by example type. He may not be the most commanding, obvious leader in a room, but he constantly exceeds expectations and shows others in AASB how it’s done. He is always one to step up to the plate and volunteer within the organization, and he constantly brings such valuable contributions to Traditions committee and AASB as a whole. I seriously could not think of anyone more deserving of this spotlight as Alex’s hard work sometimes slips under the radar, but he is seriously SO appreciated! Thank you Alex :)

Communications

Name: Mady Washington

I appreciate Mady because she is so incredibly humble and selfless. Have you had a chance to take a look at the TTN Recipe Card graphics on our Instagram or even the Mizzou Madness official sticker logo? Yep, all Mady. She is such a light and deserves all the hype!
