I can remember moving into Lathrop Hall like it was yesterday. I was so excited to start my college journey and I could not wait to make the most of my time at Mizzou. At my high school graduation party, I can remember everyone telling me things like, “These next four years will go by in the blink of an eye”, or “I would do anything to go back if I could”, and now that I am living the post-grad life myself, I can honestly tell you they were right. I guess time flies when you are having fun, and my time at Mizzou will forever be some of the most fun moments of my life.
Mizzou prepared me not only for a professional future in my degree field but also taught me how to thrive as an individual in the real world. Graduating does not mean that your time as a Tiger is coming to an end; once you are a Tiger, you will always be a Tiger. Becoming an alum allows you to bring a piece of Mizzou magic with you wherever you go in life.
My current job calls for me to travel to a new city every week and work with hundreds of different people every day. I love not only getting to share the memories of my Mizzou experience with others but getting to meet fellow Tigers all across the country as well. I have had numerous experiences where I will be walking down the street wearing one of the many t-shirts I acquired in my time at Mizzou, and hear someone yell “MIZ”. It is such a proud feeling to know that I get to be a part of a unique network of people that forever bleed black and gold.
As a senior, it can be easy to get caught up in the stress of job-hunting, or to constantly fantasize about the next stage of your life. However, if there were one piece of advice that I would want you to take away from this, it would be to stay present in each day and focus on enjoying the Mizzou experience. Grab a slice of pizza at Shakespeare’s. Hang out with friends at Harpo’s on a Thursday night. Spend an afternoon on the Quad. Enjoy a scoop or two of a new flavor at Sparky’s. Student charge one last Mizzou t-shirt while you still can. Senior year is a time to leave your legacy on Mizzou and let it leave its legacy on you. Because once you’re gone, you’ll wish you could go back.
