Spring Fever Remedies

We are halfway through the second semester and spring fever is about to hit students hard. Lucky for these tigers there are multiple ways in Columbia to cure the cabin fever that has been building for months. Here are some ways to get out of the classroom and enjoy the spirit of Columbia.

1. True/False Film Festival

Spend a weekend away from the classroom and explore documentaries from around the world. Watch as downtown Columbia is turned into a jam-packed hub for art and culture. True/False is one of the largest documentary film festivals in the world and is happening Feb 28th - March 3rd. Watching films all weekend is the perfect escape from the stress of midterms.

2. E - Week

Celebrate Saint Patrick's Day with the people who do it best, Mizzou Engineers. Join this brainy bunch as they light the dome of Jesse Green, showcase their labs, and give back to the community on Mizzou Giving Day. Since 1903, the College of Engineering has celebrated its roots so join them for their 116th anniversary. This year Mizzou’s E-Week will be March 8th-16th with spirited events happening every night.

3. Mizzou Alternative Breaks

Get out and give back. Mizzou Alternative Breaks (MAB) is a great way to leave the thoughts of school behind and focus on serving others. Choose any of the 14 service focuses and spend a week or a weekend with your peers traveling across the country doing community service. Growing to the fourth largest program in the nation, MAB has become a staple in the Columbia community and a highlight in many college students experiences.

4. Columbia Farmers Market Spring Kick Off

Support local businesses and come to the start of the spring farmers market season! Try the fresh produce from Columbia and spend time outside with friends and family. With over 70 vendors and live music, the farmers market is a free and fun way to celebrate the change of seasons. The grand kick off will be March 17th!

5. Empty Bowls

Create a wonderful pottery bowl of your own and then enjoy a meal in the bowl with the Columbia Center for Urban Agriculture. As a fundraiser for “Planting for the Pantry” donations are encouraged but not required. So for a fun study break come to the event on March 15th to get creative and enjoy a nice snack at the same time.

Spring fever doesn’t have to keep you longing for Summer. With so many events and things to do inside Columbia, it is a guarantee that there is an event that you will enjoy. So forget about school and work for a minute and explore the opportunities found within the University of Missouri’s community.
