Hey Tigers! Now that we’re “back” from Spring Break, I’m sure you’re wondering what exactly we’re getting “back” to during these unusual times. Personally, I’ve lost all memory of my pre-break routines. As we adjust to remote learning, here are a few tips: 1. Stick to class during class time. If you’re attending class through a scheduled Zoom call, be on time and stay focused, of course. But for those not using Zoom, though, it can be tempting to push your work off or convince yourself you’ll do it “eventually.” Instead, block out your normal class time and dedicate the timeblock to work for that specific class. It will help you establish a routine. 2. Limit your workspace to work.
A workspace isn't just a physical space - it's a mental one, too. It’s important to mentally associate your work area as a place of productivity, so no social media breaks while you're plugged in - stay focused! Just as important - leave that spot when it’s time to relax, even if that just means getting up and walking around. It will help you turn off "work mode" at the end of the day (and not try to get “one more thing” done during your chill-out time). 3. Schedule out your due dates. Whether it’s an app, a series of phone alarms, or an old-school paper calendar, anything goes when it comes to keeping your deadlines straight. Don’t be afraid of mixing digital and physical options, either. Bonus tip - when you’re scheduling your assignments and work time, don’t forget to schedule breaks in as well. 4. Collaborate with your friends and peers. Study groups are a normal part of the college experience - and there’s no reason you can’t still host one. Video conference calls and chats are a great way to keep up with your classmates, and scheduling a series of meetings can help establish a routine as well. It also doesn’t have to be that formal - sending a group text over your latest Netflix binge is perfectly fine too. It shouldn’t be all work 24/7! 5. Don’t be afraid to ask for help. We’re all human, and we’re all going through this together. If you need to reach out to a friend, classmate or professor about how you’re feeling, don’t hesitate. And make sure to check in on your peers as well - someone might need a hand and not realize it yet. Remember - this is temporary. Spend time with your loved ones, and most importantly, stay safe. We can and will get through this, and if there’s one thing I know about Tigers, it’s that we can fight. So - Fight Tiger!
