TTN Student Resources

Hey Tigers! Can you believe that we are already a quarter of the way done with the semester? Yes, that’s 25%, or 1/4th! Ok, that's enough math for today. Well, actually I wanted to propose one more idea: 4 super helpful resources for Mizzou students during this time! Ok, that’s the last number - I promise! But seriously, these times are not easy, and no one expects them to be. This is why Mizzou has some amazing resources to get your mental, physical, and emotional health as close to 100% as possible (sorry, that number just worked)!

  1. COVID-19 Resources

Guys, I am so sorry, but I have to say the word. Coronavirus. Sorry, but it’s still a thing! Because it is, Mizzou is working to provide as much support as possible for those who have and have not contracted the virus. Thanks to our last blog, you guys have some great tips on how to stop the spread, but what if you actually encounter the virus? Mizzou’s renewal.missouri.edu website is a great resource for learning what to do if you need a test or if you have been exposed to or tested positive for COVID-19. If you simply want to keep up with the numbers, the active student and faculty cases dashboard is updated daily.

2. Diversity Centers

Though we’re all Tigers, we each have our own unique backgrounds, experiences and identities. Mizzou recognizes this diversity too, which is why there are multiple centers committed to this on campus including the Office for Civil Rights & Title IX, the Disability Center, the LGBTQ Resource Center, the Multicultural Center, the Black Culture Center, the Women’s Center, Diversity Peer Educators, and more! Looking at all of these can be extremely overwhelming, especially if the context of intersectionality. Don’t worry, though. You can read about all of our centers here. All of these centers fall under the larger umbrella of Mizzou’s Division of Inclusion, Diversity, and Equity.

3. Alumni Mentor

College is great because it is a nice, long break away from parents and rules. Seriously, they think they know everything! However, it can be nice to learn from an adult who has been in your shoes, knows all about Mizzou, and won’t make you do chores. Sounds too good to be true? Well, it’s not! Mizzou Mentoring is an amazing opportunity to receive advice and guidance from a confidential, non-judgmental alumni mentor who can help your true talent and potential blossom! Not to mention, this can be a great person to turn to as a more mature resource during this time. Want to learn more? Check out their website here. If you choose to proceed, just make an account and get started!

4. Counseling

Just because we are in the midst of a pandemic does not mean that counseling services are unavailable. In fact, they are arguably better than ever! The MU Counseling Center is offering a number of remote services, including those that respond to recent race-related violence and tragedy. Their website is extremely specific, and it is highly likely that you can find just the right service to cater to your needs. Mental health is just as important as physical health now and forever, so never be ashamed to take the time to take care of yourself! Speaking of physical health, if you want some really helpful food and nutrition tips for self-quarantine, click here! Something great is that Mizzou also offers self-care resources for those of us seeking a more independent approach. Either way, we are here for you!

I hope that these were helpful resources! One of the great things about how we’re all adapting to remote circumstances is that these changes really expand the accessibility of services and represent another step toward enhancing where and how people can access them. In fact, I’m currently at home in my basement right now and am highly considering tuning in for some energizing yoga next Monday! We always say Fight Tiger, but just know that you never have to fight alone.
