Welcome back, True Tigers! Hopefully, we’re all settling into the beginning of the semester with ease. The beginning of a new school year at Mizzou is always such an exciting time. You’re reconnecting with your friends and still riding the high of the Summertime. My favorite thing to do to kick off each school year is discover new places in Columbia to share some quality time with my friends. Below is a list of the 5 places you have to visit in Columbia this semester.
1.) The State Historical Society of Missouri
For those who were on campus last year, you might remember construction going on throughout the school year downtown on Elm St. Well, I’m glad to report that you can now freely drive down Elm Street now that the new State Historical Society of Missouri building is officially open to the public! This building serves as both a research center and a gallery showcasing artworks and artifacts that make Missouri what it is today. The building itself could even be considered a work of art. This would be a great place to stop by with friends and then grab a bite to eat after.
2.) Randy’s Frozen Custard
I’m sure you’ve heard of Andy’s Frozen Custard before, but what about Randy’s Frozen Custard? Randy’s Frozen Custard is Columbia’s longest-running custard shop, featuring the world’s largest selection of specialty concrete treats. They even have what they call, “Magic Spoons”, which change colors upon dipping into your custard. They truly are as magical as they claim to be. Don’t miss out on this hidden gem this semester.
3.) Hang out at Football Fridays
Few things are better than free food, free t-shirts, and free games. As a True Tiger member, you get to experience all of this and more at Football Fridays! On the Friday prior to each home football game, the Alumni Association Student Board hands out free food and Beat T-shirts on Traditions plaza. You also have the opportunity to play games while listening to music and getting in the game-day spirit. After finishing all of your responsibilities on Fridays, this is definitely the place to be!
4.) Weekend Brunch at Blufftop Bistro
Though this option is actually in Rocheport, it’s definitely worth the 20-minute trip down I-70. Blufftop Bistro sits atop Les Bourgeois Vineyard and features a beautiful view of the Missouri River Valley. The restaurant emphasizes the idea of supporting local businesses, so their meats and produce are locally-sourced from their partner farms. Once you’re done eating, take a walk around and check out their gift shop and vineyard.
5.) Midway Golf and Games
Ever wanted to feel like a little kid again? Lucky for us, Midway Golf and Games provides the perfect setting to be able to do exactly that. This entertainment center features nearly everything under the sun, including mini-golfing, go-kart racing, axe throwing, laser tag, an arcade, and much more. This is the perfect spot to go to on a Saturday night with a group of your closest friends to get in the competitive spirit.
